VCU Health Hub at 25th: Community Ambassadors Program

About the Program

The VCU Health Hub at 25th Community Ambassadors Program connects East End residents to the mission of the Health Hub. Ambassadors serve as trusted community liaisons, using their lived experience and relationships to bridge connections between the Health Hub and their neighbors.

Program Objectives

The Community Ambassadors Program is designed to:

  • Strengthen outreach and engagement between the Health Hub and East End residents
  • Offer space for community voice and leadership within VCU systems
  • Promote mutual learning through collaboration
  • Support community members in developing professional skills
  • Build trust between VCU and the community

What Ambassadors Do

Ambassadors complete at least three activities per month from a menu of engagement options, including:

  • Attend a Health Hub team meeting
  • Participate in the Community Advisory Council or Partner Engagement Network
  • Lead a facility tour at the Health Hub
  • Support a program or event at the Health Hub
  • Present Health Hub information at a community or stakeholder meeting
  • Host a training, workshop, or small group discussion
  • Represent the Health Hub at a neighborhood or civic event
  • Distribute Health Hub communications and outreach materials

Ambassadors receive orientation, monthly meetings, and quarterly training for support

Training and Support

All ambassadors receive:

  • Orientation and onboarding, including a Health Hub overview and online learning modules
  • Quarterly training sessions tailored to the needs of the cohort
  • Monthly cohort meetings to build connections and share ideas
  • Access to resources such as toolkits, name tags, outreach materials, and support from staff
  • Opportunities to lead or co-host campaigns, health fairs, and other events

Honorarium

Ambassadors receive a $50 monthly honorarium in recognition of their time and contributions. Payment is based on:

  • Completion of at least three engagement activities per month
  • Attendance at monthly cohort meetings
  • Participation in required training
  • Distribution of Health Hub communications within their network
  • Timely completion of required documentation

Who Can Apply

We are looking for East End residents who:

  • Are active in at least one neighborhood group, faith-based organization, or local initiative
  • Are passionate about health, wellness, and community
  • Want to strengthen their leadership and communication skills

You can apply for yourself, or you may nominate someone you know who would be a strong community ambassador.

Applicants must:

  • Submit an application (self-nomination or community nomination)
  • Participate in an interview at the Health Hub
  • Provide two character references
  • Complete onboarding training upon selection
